top 10 slow cooker recipes for parents
i've been doing this thing for awhile now. when folks have a new baby, or when i remember to do it, i send them a word document of my top 10 slow cooker recipes. these are the recipes that i mostly have memorized and often make at least once a week. as many of you know, i fricking love the crockpot. sure, i love my dutch oven and braising, but when i was a new mom, being able to throw dinner in the crockpot in the morning was a godsend around 5pm later that day. mornings were the only time i could get a little household work done and they still are...by the afternoon i am usually so tired all i want is a latte and a nap. however, i have since figured out that all of us, parents or not, could benefit from the glory of the crockpot. so, if you would like to fall in love with the crockpot this fall and winter...go here to get the top ten slow cooker recipes. check out one of my favorite blogs of all time, dinner a love story, and see what jenny has to say about the korean ribs she made from my top 10 list. she's pretty awesome in the kitchen so i am sure she found a way to make these even more killer.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these. Love that the first one is vegetarian--I'm not, but have some vegetarian friends having babies and this will be perfect... to prepare and and pass along the (life-saving!) recipe! :o)

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I love DALS and am happy to have found your blog. Our second baby is due in 3 weeks and my nesting is focused on an obsession with stocking our freezer and preparing food. This fits right in!

I'm just joining the ranks here to say how awesome you are!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to have found your blog and these recipes in particular! I am not a parent but find that preparing meals in advance is the only way to avoid ordering take-out during my busy week!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing these too! We're in our third trimester with our first baby and trying to start stockpiling necessities and freezer meals and/or crock pot meals. This is the first list of 10 crockpot meals where I'd happily eat all of them too!
ReplyDeleteAlso found you through DALS. Thank you so much for the recipes!
ReplyDeletei just wanted to come by and thank you!!!!!! i love your gift idea (incredibly kind and most importantly HELPFUL), and i am on my way to download the recipes. i (like tara) am also curious to your 'vegetarian additions/adjustments'... I'm not a vegetarian, but we have started to eat less (and less) meat, but like she said- i'm all for using it to flavor or using chicken stock as opposed to vegetable stock. but really, i can't wait to see/try the recipes, and again- thank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteI heart you!!! Thanks.
ReplyDeletethanks so much everyone. i hope you all enjoy the recipes and let me know how they work for you. i will work on gathering some vegetarian variations and low meat recipes that i have...look for those this week. and for the mommas that just had a baby or are about to...look for a post of what i think you absolutely need in the kitchen, for when you are in the trenches the first few months. xoxo!
ReplyDeleteI too followed the link from DALS and have been avidly perusing your blog. It is fantastic - I've gathered so many new ideas.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is, thank you so much for sharing, from the bottom of my working-mom heart!!!
ReplyDeletewow! nothing much different than the other comments, but felt compelled to add my thanks. i have been seriously in need of new crock pot recipes and these look great! SO very appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI wish you were my friend! I just had a baby, and just asked a few of my friends about their favorite crock pot meals because it just seems like the easiest way to manage a newborn AND eat dinner. So, thank you Jenny at DALS for pointing me in the perfect direction.
ReplyDeleteSo, I am going to pretend that I am one of your friends and you posted this just for me in my new baby haze.
Thank you!
thanks again, everyone! i just posted some vegetarian slow cooker options for those of you who were interested. have a great weekend! xo!
ReplyDeletewhy do i get an error message when I try to click on the the top ten crockpot recipes?
Deletecarol, i'm not sure. has anyone else had this problem?
DeleteHi Anna! Another person over here from DALS--LOVE this list. One question: in the Korean ribs recipe, do you just throw the jalapenos in whole or slice them? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteyep, just pop in whole!
ReplyDeleteThank you, these sound great! Quick question, I am wondering what kind of crock pot everyone is using?? Believe it or not I don't own one yet, but as a new mom I can definitely see the appeal of a crock pot meal and I just want to make sure I buy a good one :)
ReplyDelete@erin: all the top 10 recipes can be made in a 5-7 quart crockpot. america's test kitchen from cook's illustrated recently did a episode where they tested crockpots. they found this number to be the best:

however, i will be honest...i have always had luck with the cheapie, $30, rival brand crockpots that can be found at any target. congrats on the new baby and let me know how these recipes turn out for you! xo!
Also here from DALS. And wow, I think I love you just from the crockpot recipes! Thank you for so generously sharing. My kids are no longer babies but I rely heavily on my crockpot -- new food in the slow cooker rotation will be very, very exciting.
ReplyDeleteAnother referral from DALS. My husband and his buddy spent the cold wet day outside framing a building, and DEVOURED the Korean short ribs. They normally shovel in food and grunt, but were both moved to actually speak! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAnother new reader from DALS. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes and in such a user-friendly way! You just made the upcoming winter much more appetizing:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you for posting these sanity-saving recipes! Your generosity is seriously brightening my whole day. Cheers, Riley.
ReplyDeleteFound you via DALS & tried out Jenny's version of your Korean short ribs (braised) - they were fantastic. I highly recommend adding an inch of fresh grated ginger to the recipe. looking forward to trying out your butter chicken. Also appreciate the heads up on recipes where using frozen works great - remembering to thaw is so difficult!
